NLC President Joe Ajaero speaks out after assault in Imo

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has given an account of how he was beaten in Imo State by alleged thugs.

Ajaero said he was arrested by the police in Owerri, the Imo State capital, and handed over to a group of seven thugs who beat him and dragged him on the floor like a common criminal.

The NLC President gave the account at a press conference on Friday, November 10, 2023, in Abuja.

He said the NLC had written to all the security agencies before their planned protest in the state last week.

Ajaero revealed that he arrived at the scene around 9 am after receiving a report of the assault on the workers.

The NLC President stated that the police arrested him and then handed him over to the thugs.

He further revealed, “I can’t explain the beating I received. They tied my hands and dragged me on the floor like a common criminal.”

According to Ajaero, he is not a card-carrying member of any political party as alleged.
