NLC President’s Arrest: Organised Labour warns of nationwide action
The Organised Labour has issued a warning of nationwide action if the arrested President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, is not released by the end of today, Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
He was arrested in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, during a protest by workers over an alleged “serial and habitual abuse and violation” of their rights by the state government.
Heavily armed policemen took him from the NLC State Council Secretariat to an unknown destination.

In a joint statement by the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) shortly after Ajaero’s arrest, the Labour unions accused the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma and the Imo State Commissioner of Police of abducting the NLC leader.
Asking workers to be on alert, Organised Labour emphasized that workers cannot be at work while the NLC President is in custody.
It further stated that President Bola Tinubu needs to curb the Governor’s activities and avert turning the state into a “den of thugs and bloodsuckers”.
