Police arrest NLC President Joe Ajaero in Owerri amidst ongoing workers’ protest
In a dramatic turn of events, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, was apprehended in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. He was taken into custody by a contingent of heavily armed police officers who arrived at the NLC State Council Secretariat and escorted him to an undisclosed location.
The arrest of Joe Ajaero was confirmed by Benson Upah, the Head of Media at the NLC Headquarters, through a WhatsApp message in response to News Point Nigeria’s inquiry.

Ajaero’s detention comes amidst a broader protest and strike led by the NLC in Owerri, with the organization citing a lack of respect for workers and outstanding salary issues as the primary reasons for the demonstrations.
