Police in Calabar arrest suspected kidnapper while hiding in girlfriend’s ceiling

A suspect who escaped from the police after being involved in the kidnapping of a former INEC staff has been arrested in Calabar, Cross River State.

The police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect would provide more information on the case.

According to the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the suspect was found hiding in the ceiling of his girlfriend’s house, where he had been hiding since Saturday, when he fled from the police.

The police had earlier arrested three other suspects in connection with the kidnapping, but one of them managed to escape by climbing into the ceiling.

The suspect confessed to being the mastermind of the kidnapping and revealed that the victim’s tenant was the one who hired him and his gang to abduct the former INEC staff, Mrs. Bassey.

The police spokesperson said the suspect was tracked down by the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, who raided his girlfriend’s house around 5 a.m.

“He has confessed to orchestrating of Mrs. Bassey’s kidnapping and has identified Bassey’s tenant as the person who contracts him and his gang to abduct the victim, ” he said.
