President Tinubu spent N150 billion to win 2023 election – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Moh Lukman, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC governors spent N150 billion and N14 billion, respectively to win the 2023 elections.

According to Lukman, Tinubu had expended over N50 billion for the presidential primary, and at least N100 billion for the main election.

Regarding APC governors, Lukman claimed that some of them had spent over N3 billion for primary tickets and at least N10 billion for the main elections, including expenses like N100 million and N50 million for expression of interest and nomination forms.

Lukman expressed concerns over the escalating costs, noting the APC’s nomination forms’ costs have surged over the years, projecting N250 million for the 2027 presidential election and N125 million for governorship.

He highlighted the stark contrast to 2015 when nomination forms were considerably cheaper.

The APC chieftain argued that the 2023 election cost for President Tinubu could exceed N100 billion, attributing this to personal expenditures and minimal contributions from the party.

He asserted that the trend extended to APC governors, estimating a minimum of N10 billion for each to secure victory.

Lukman emphasized the alarming nature of these costs and urged a reevaluation of Nigerian politics, asserting that APC had deviated from its envisioned progressive path due to influences from the opposition party.
