Senate green-lights Chira as Auditor General for the Federation
The Senate has approved the appointment of Shaakaa Chira from Taraba State as Auditor General for the Federation after he was screened by the Upper Chamber on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
Chira’s appointment was made by President Bola Tinubu on October 20, following the recommendation of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
However, the appointment was opposed on Monday by a group called Worried Nigerian Citizens, raising concerns about his qualifications and experience.

In addition to Chira’s appointment, the Senate also approved the appointment of seven of President Tinubu’s nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
The approved nominees are Etekamba Umoren from Akwa Ibom, Mr Isha Ehimeakne from Edo, Barrister Oluwatoyin Babalola from Ekiti, Mr Abubakar Ahmed from Gombe, Shehu Wahab from Kwara, Aminu Idris from Nasarawa, and Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq from Niger.
However, the remaining three nominees were not present for screening.
