Abia police rescue 4 children abducted by female tenant, arrest 8 suspects

The Abia Police Command has successfully rescued four missing children, reportedly abducted in Umuahia, and arrested a suspect linked to the crime.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, the children, aged between three and six years old, belonged to different parents.

Following a report filed by one of the mothers on December 16, alleging abduction by an unidentified tenant, the police took swift action.

Police said two of the missing children were rescued on December 22, and the remaining two were successfully recovered on Sunday.

The police identified the alleged abductor as Ifeoma Abonyi, a 35-year-old female located in Asaba, Delta State.

Currently, a total of eight suspects, comprising five females and three males have been apprehended and are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Three additional individuals suspected to be involved in the crime are still at large, with authorities intensifying efforts for their swift apprehension.

Maureen Chinaka stated, “Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to determine the real status of six other children that were found in the custody of the arrested suspects. This might entail the conduct of DNA tests, as some of the suspects are claiming that the children are their biological offspring.”

The spokesperson assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be disclosed as soon as possible.
