Again, Fintiri wins at Appeal Court, defeats APC’s Binani
In a pivotal decision on December 18, 2023, the Court of Appeal in Abuja solidifies Ahmadu Fintiri’s position as the Governor of Adamawa State.
The court further validates the ruling by the Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, affirming the triumph of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.

Recall that the Adamawa State Governorship Election Tribunal affirmed the election of Umaru Fintiri as duly elected governor of the state in the March 2023 governorship election.
During the controversial supplementary election held on April 15, 2023, in Adamawa State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa-Ari, illegally announced Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress as winner of the election while results collation was ongoing.
Afterwards, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspended Yunusa-Ari and the collation was put on hold.
However, when the process resumed, incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri defeated Binani to emerge as the winner. Dissatisfied with the commission’s decision, Binani opened an appeal in court, seeking a judicial review to reverse her earlier announcement as the winner of the poll.
