Bauchi Chief Judge warns politicians against meddling with judicial matters

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, has voiced her dissatisfaction with the interference of politicians in the selection of High Court justices, to the detriment of the overall justice system.
While speaking at the 2023/2024 Legal Year Ceremony in Bauchi, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar emphasised the imperative of reducing unnecessary litigation and expressed the state judiciary’s commitment to initiating a Multi-Door Court House Process, that offers an alternative method of resolving disputes.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of cases in Magistrate, Shari’a, and High Courts of Justice, Justice Umar stressed the need for out-of-court settlement, as the current rate is straining human and material resources.
She urged lawyers, police, and personnel of correctional centres to aid the court in the efficient dispensation of justice through judicious case management, void of technicalities and unnecessary delays.
Earlier during the ceremony, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, in his address, commended the performance of the state judiciary in handling both civil and criminal cases, promising increased support from his administration in infrastructure and logistics to enable the judiciary to function optimally.
While congratulating the judiciary on the 2023/2024 Legal Year, Bala Mohammed underscored the need to maintain the existing harmonious relationship among all arms of government to safeguard the state against criminal elements.
