EFCC laments surge in cybercrimes among Nigerian youths
The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern over the rising prevalence of Nigerian youths involved in cybercrimes.
In a statement issued by the EFCC, Olukoyede highlighted the alarming statistic that “seven out of ten students in Nigeria today are involved in cybercrimes.”
He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from Daar Communication PLC at the corporate headquarters of the EFCC in Jabi, Abuja.

Olukoyede called on the media to create informative programmes aimed at educating Nigerian youths about the detrimental effects of engaging in cybercrimes.
He emphasised the importance of preparing the youth to be future leaders and urged the media not to relent in enlightening them about the negative consequences of such criminal activities.
The EFCC chairman emphasised the need for widespread media awareness campaigns to educate the youth across the country about the adverse effects of internet fraud.
He said it’s important to address the issue with empathy and understanding, keeping in mind the complexities behind why some individuals may turn to cybercrimes while also highlighting positive alternatives for young people to engage in legal and meaningful activities.
