FG denies claimed resurgence of COVID-19 in Nigeria
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, has refuted the alleged resurgence of COVID-19 in Nigeria, emphasizing the lack of scientific evidence to support such claims.
Speaking at the inaugural public lecture series of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo in Benue State, Professor Pate, represented by his Senior Special Adviser Emmanuel Oduh, underscored the necessity of a scientific process for diagnosing COVID-19 and dismissed any subjective speculation about its recurrence.
Highlighting Nigeria’s successful efforts in combating previous pandemics, Professor Pate cited the nation’s exemplary management of the Ebola virus and commendable performance in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges within the health sector, he noted that Nigeria’s handling of the COVID-19 situation ranks among the best globally.

Furthermore, as the first Nigeria-dedicated medical university endeavors to train a proficient medical workforce amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the minister emphasized the significant expectations associated with their mandate.
Adding to this, the school’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah, announced the engagement of thirty consultants to oversee the training of over three hundred skilled health workers, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to meeting the demands created by the ongoing pandemic.
