FlexiSAF Foundation hosts third annual Walk for Education in commemoration of Human Rights Day 2023
The FlexiSAF Foundation recently hosted its third annual Walk for Education event in commemoration of Human Rights Day 2023.
The initiative aims to advocate for every child’s right to education and calls on the government and relevant education stakeholders to prioritize education, particularly for marginalized children.
This year’s theme, “2030 on the Horizon: Naija’s Journey to Achieving SDG 4,” underscores the urgency of tackling Nigeria’s education crisis, which currently has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world.
During the third annual Walk for Education organized by the FlexiSAF Foundation, several prominent figures served as distinguished guests.
The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, was represented by Special Adviser, Dr. Claris Ujam. Similarly, the Honorable Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio, was represented by Special Adviser, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Isyaku. The Country Director of Plan International Nigeria, Mr. Charles Usie, was also in attendance, represented by Mr. Laban Onisimus, the Head of Social Programmes.
Other notable dignitaries who graced the event included Former Special Advisor to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Investments, Mrs. Maryam Uwais, Founder of Project Hope Alive Africa, Amb. Chibuzo Okereke, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Bamidele Salam (represented by Lu Bem), Former Chair of the House Committee on Basic Education, Mr. Balarabe Kakale, Acting Chair of the Board of Trustees of the FlexiSAF Foundation, Mr. Sa’ad Bashir, Senior Consultant on Basic Education, Dr. Nguyan Shaku Feese, Managing Partner of Modern Shelter, Mr. Abdulhamid Mahdi, Head of Education at the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Dr. Ebenezer Leo The Great, and Executive Director of System Strategy and Policy Lab, Mr. Murtala Adogi.
The Foundation’s Executive Director, Mrs. Amina Abubakar, commended the event’s success and acknowledged the contributions of generous sponsors such as Arabi Bello and Associates and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative (CALDEV), among others.
At the after-walk event, Yahaya Abubakar was announced as the distinguished winner of the inaugural Advocate of the Year contest organized under its Young Education Advocates Program.
Yahaya Abubakar, recognized for his exceptional dedication to promoting social change in his society, received a noteworthy cash prize of 100,000 naira, along with an award plaque of recognition and a certificate of achievement.
The event also acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the first and second runner-ups, each receiving a commemorative plaque and certificate.
In a spirit of appreciation for all participants, certificates were distributed to recognize their remarkable achievements during this inspiring initiative.
The Foundation expressed gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and partners for their contributions to the event’s success.
