Hoodlums attack Kano LG secretariat, destroy 17 offices, vehicles

The Kano State Police Command has revealed that some thugs have launched an attack on the Gwale local government area secretariat in the state, destroying several valuables and 17 offices.

This incident occurred following the reinstatement of the embattled chairman, Khalid Ishaq, on Wednesday.

The individuals, termed “faceless intruders”, attacked the secretariat after a fire outbreak earlier in the morning had already damaged part of the secretariat building.

Ishaq, elected chairman during the immediate-past administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), faced a three-month suspension by the Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA).

The suspension, based on a petition by local government councillors that accused him of illegal land sales, ended as he sought legal redress, resulting in a court order for his reinstatement.

After his court-mandated reinstatement, Ishaq sought police protection while resuming office, but chaos ensued as unknown individuals stormed the place, leading to the destruction of 17 offices and several vehicles worth millions of Naira.

The Kano State Police Command, acknowledging the incident in a statement, referred to the attackers as “faceless intruders” and assured ongoing investigations into the immediate and remote causes of the attacks.

The statement urged calm, emphasising that the police had provided security for the chairman and the local government council headquarters, and the situation was under control, with joint security operatives available to restore normalcy.

The Gwale Local Government Secretariat is now guarded by armed security personnel, with activities temporarily halted.
