How 18-year-old teenager kidnapped 3-year-old cousin to get N1 million ransom
An 18-year-old teenager, Salisu Adamu, from Danbatta in Kano State has been apprehended by the State Police for orchestrating the kidnapping of his three-year-old cousin, Auwalu Aminu.
The distressing saga began when the child’s father, Malam Aminu Garba Danbatta, reported the abduction to the police on December 19, 2023.
Just five days later, Adamu contacted the family with a hidden number, demanding a ransom of N1 million for the safe release of young Auwalu.
Swift action by Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel, led to the arrest of Adamu and the rescue of the child in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
During interrogation, Adamu confessed to acting alone, citing financial troubles as his motivation. His plan was to use the ransom to settle debts exceeding N100,000, stemming from a failed business venture.

The victim’s father expressed shock and disappointment upon discovering that a family member was behind the abduction. Despite the betrayal, he thanked the Kano State Police for their rapid response in rescuing his son.
CP Gumel assured the public of a thorough investigation, emphasizing that Adamu would face legal consequences for his actions.
