How I killed our domestic staff who prevented me from committing suicide – Kano housewife

Hafsat Surajo, a 24-year-old housewife in Kano state, has confessed to fatally stabbing her domestic staff, Nafiu Hafiz, who intervened in her suicide attempt. The tragic incident unfolded during a heated argument when Nafiu stepped in to stop Hafsat from taking her own life.

Hafsat recounted the events, stating, “I killed him because he prevented me from killing myself.” A struggle ensued, and Hafsat sustained a cut on her hand. Taking advantage of the moment when Nafiu lay claiming illness, Hafsat grabbed a knife and inflicted multiple stab wounds.

In the meantime, the Kano Police apprehended Hafsat’s husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, and the security guard, Mallam Adam, for supposedly hiding Nafiu’s lifeless body. The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, disclosed that the discovery of Nafiu’s body with multiple stab wounds had led to the arrests.

CP Gumel stated, “Further investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department obtained a confession by Hafsat.” The police commissioner affirmed that Hafsat would face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation, underscoring the gravity of the disturbing incident.

“Upon arrival at the scene of the crime, the motionless body was removed from the scene and rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where a medical doctor certified him dead. “Further investigation led to the arrest of Hasfat Surajo, aged 24 years, a female housewife of the residence where the deceased lived.

“Further investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, obtained a confession by Hafsat who admitted that she committed the act by stabbing the deceased on several parts of his body with a knife while he was preventing her from committing suicide.

The Police Commissioner, CP Gumel, however, said the suspect will be charged in court after the completion of the investigation.
