Inuwa Yahaya, Buni, Ganduje, Sultan grace National Quranic Recitation Competition in Yobe

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, along with other prominent figures, recently attended the closing ceremony of the 38th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The event was organized by the Musabaqah Foundation for Qur’anic Recitation in Nigeria, Centre for Islamic Studies at Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, and the Yobe State Government.

The competition aimed to encourage Muslim youths to learn proper recitation and memorization of the holy Quran, foster unity and peaceful coexistence among Muslims and non-Muslims, and inculcate true and practical teachings of the Quran.

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was represented at the occasion by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The host Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of the Quran in Muslim lives and the guidance it provides.

Ibrahim Mohammed Nasir from Bauchi State and Zainab Aliyu Mohammed from Kano State emerged as overall winners in the male and female categories, respectively. They were decorated as ‘Gwarzo’ and ‘Gwarzuwar Shekara’ by the Sultan and received cars, Hajj seats, and N5m cash as prizes.

Gombe State also performed well in the competition, with participants winning top positions in various categories, including seventh place in the main category (memorization with Tafsie and different Qira’at).

Governor Inuwa Yahaya visited the Gombe tent at the arena to meet with participants and their guides.

He presented them with N3m cash as a reward for their efforts.

The governor was accompanied by Hon. Members of Gombe State House of Assembly; Hon. Siddi Buba, Hon. Musa Buba, Hon. Musa Manaja Zambuk, Commissioners of Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Gambo Magaji, Budget and Economic Planning, Salisu Baba Alkali; Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Mohammed Saidu Mohammed Fawu and Executive Secretary of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sa’adu Hassan.
