JAMB debunks rumours of UTME fee increase for 2024
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected rumours of an increase in the registration fee for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement released by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s Public Communication Advisor (PCA), it was made clear that the information circulating was false and that the cost of obtaining UTME application documents from JAMB remains at N3,500.
“The Board wishes to assure the general public that we have been making every effort to ensure that candidates are not overburdened in any way,” he asserted.
Benjamin explained that one of the measures considered was deliberately keeping costs low. As part of this, the Board decided to provide the Use of English reading text free of charge through a QR code to prevent passing the increase in production costs to candidates.

“All UTME candidates will access the reading text free of charge through multiple channels, including their profiles, email address, notification slip, and the Board’s website,” he stated.
Addressing the perception of fee increment, Benjamin clarified that it results from the Board’s cashless policy, consolidating all fees payable by candidates to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. This consolidation, he noted, aims to prevent exploitation by unscrupulous centre owners.
He detailed the breakdown of fees, stating that candidates are expected to pay N700 for registration, N1500 as examination fees, and N1500 for the optional Mock-UTME at privately-owned centres.
Benjamin highlighted the Board’s resistance to calls for a drastic increase in the cost of services by partnering and privately-owned centres due to the current economic situation. He reiterated that the Board’s services are not for profit.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the 2024 UTME/DE e-PIN remains N3500. The registration fee of N700, to be paid to CBT centres by candidates, will now be collected by the Board along with N1500, the cost for sitting the main UTME, and N1500 as the cost of the optional Mock-UTME, etc., to be collected by the Board on behalf of the CBT centres,” he concluded.
