Nigerian healthcare worker fired, deported for praying with dying patient in UK
A Nigerian healthcare worker in the UK has faced serious consequences for allegedly praying with an elderly patient who was near the end of their life.
The healthcare worker, whose identity has not been disclosed, was dismissed and subsequently deported from the country.

In a post on social media platform X, renowned Nigerian doctor @drolufunmilayo explained that bringing religion into nursing duties is considered unethical in the UK.
While it is not customary for nurses to offer prayers for patients, they are expected to engage a cleric for any religious services, even if requested by the patient.
Olufunmilayo shared the incident to caution Nigerian doctors relocating to the UK against praying for patients, stating, “Praying for your patient is seen as an abuse of trust and a misuse of your position. You are expected to simply focus on your job without incorporating personal religious practices.”
