An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), known as Nurudeen, reportedly lost his life on Thursday after stepping on an explosive at the site of a vandalised electricity tower along Jakana-Auno Road in Borno State.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focusing on the Lake Chad region, shared on his verified X handle that the security operative died while inspecting the vandalised electricity tower after stepping on a minor line.

He posted a photo of the deceased at the incident site with the text: “This was the last photo of Nurudeen, the NSCDC Personnel who stepped on an explosive at the scene of the vandalised electricity tower. If you look critically, there was a tiny line across the path, attached to both components on his left and the right-hand sides, I guess that was the trigger.”

“The Nigerian Civil Defence Personnel, Nurudeen, who paid the supreme price as a result of the bomb explosion, which brought 3 power towers along Jakana-Auno in the early hours of 28/12/2023,” he added.

Meanwhile, Zagazola earlier reported how the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists reportedly destroyed the 330KVA high tension transmission line along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 28, 2023, at about 0700 hours, around Yanayakiri-Garin Kuturu in the Jakana general area.

He said, “The Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists have destroyed another 330KVA high tension transmission line along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway.

“The incident occurred in the early hours of December 28, 2023, at about 0700 hours between Yanayakiri-Garin Kuturu in the Jakana general area.

“The terrorists also planted around the vicinity which killed one NSCDC personnel.

“On December 21, the terrorists vandalised two transmission towers around Katsaita village, causing a failure of power supply parts of Borno and Yobe.”
