Senate summons security chiefs over Plateau killings, demands accountability
The Nigerian Senate has taken action in response to the brutal killings of over 100 individuals in Plateau State on Christmas Eve.
Following the coordinated and devastating attacks on 23 villages in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas, which left many others wounded and significant property damage, the Senate has summoned the heads of security agencies to brief them on the situation.
Senator Abdul Ningi, speaking on behalf of the Northern Senators’ Forum, expressed concern over the failure of security intelligence and highlighted the need for improved synergy among security agencies and accountability for prior information that was allegedly not acted upon.

Former Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, refuted claims that the terrain and distance from military formations hindered security efforts.
He expressed disappointment over the loss of innocent lives despite ongoing military operations aimed at maintaining peace in the state.
The Senate’s decision to summon the heads of security agencies demonstrates a commitment to finding solutions and ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected communities.
This action follows a statement by President Bola Tinubu condemning the attacks and ordering security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.
