Sokoto sets up security outfit to fight banditry, kidnapping
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has officially signed a bill into law to establish the ‘Community Guards Corps’.
In his statement, Governor Aliyu expressed the bill as a significant achievement in his administration’s dedication to ensuring the security and development of Sokoto.
He stated, “The effort was developed to address incidents of kidnappings, banditry, and other forms of criminality facing the state.

“It is part of our commitment to curtail the menace and engage collaboratively with neighbouring states in the fight against insecurity.”
The Governor commended the Sokoto House of Assembly members for their support in realising the initiative.
He emphasised that the creation of the corps was also intended to provide a collaborative mechanism with statutory security agencies to maintain a safe and habitable environment for all citizens.
Mr Aliyu clarified that establishing the corps was not to pose challenges to security agencies but to enhance their efforts in identifying societal threats and providing crucial information.
“This initiative aims to complement the dedication of our security agencies, working collaboratively to identify and support the removal of undesirable elements from our society,” the governor stressed.
He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring people’s safety, property, and the overall environment.
Mr Aliyu appealed to citizens to continue supporting the government through prayers and sharing information to foster a secure Sokoto.
