Women journalists in Katsina call for action against Gender-Based Violence
In a powerful display of solidarity, women journalists in Katsina State have joined forces to mark the commencement of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
With unwavering determination, these media professionals are leveraging their platforms to shine a spotlight on the pervasive issue of gender-based violence and advocate for meaningful change.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, which runs from November 25th to December 10th, aims to raise awareness and mobilise action to end violence against women and girls worldwide.
This year, women journalists have taken a prominent role in driving the conversation, using their unique positions to amplify the voices of survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and prompt societal introspection.
“We, as women journalists, recognise the urgent need to address the systemic inequality and violence that persists in our societies,” said a prominent journalist and spokesperson for the initiative.

“Through our collective efforts during these 16 days, we seek to foster a culture of respect, empathy, and equality, both within our industry and beyond.”
The participating journalists, through various mediums, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms, share stories, statistics, and expert insights to illuminate the multifaceted nature of gender-based violence.
By doing so, they hope to challenge harmful stereotypes, debunk myths, and inspire meaningful dialogue that can pave the way for lasting change.
As women journalists we are calling on our colleagues, media organisations, and the public at large to actively participate in the 16 Days of Activism.
By engaging with the campaign’s themes and resources, the media practitioners seek to foster a groundswell of support for the eradication of gender-based violence and the creation of safer, more equitable communities for all.
They said as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence unfolds, the collective voice of women journalists will continue to reverberate, serving as a clarion call for action and a testament to the power of solidarity in effecting positive change.
