KACRAN calls for justice, equity for pastoralists in NEDC’s recovery efforts

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has expressed its gratitude for the establishment of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) by the federal government of Nigeria.

However, the association has raised concerns about the neglect and marginalization of pastoral communities in the region by the commission.

This was contained in a press release signed by Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, National President, Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria.

KACRAN has highlighted several urgent needs that have not been addressed by the NEDC, including access to potable water for both people and livestock, provision of animal feed during the dry season, inclusion in relief material distribution, and integration of their needs into the commission’s policies and programs.

The association has voiced its grievances to the NEDC and the presidency through various media outlets, but these concerns have not been fully realized.

KACRAN remains hopeful that the commission will uphold principles of justice and equity and actively include pastoral communities in the region’s recovery and development efforts.

During a meeting facilitated by the NEDC Head of Operation at OASIS Hotel in Damaturu, Yobe State, KACRAN was assured that their concerns would be considered, but these commitments have not been fully fulfilled by the end of the commission’s first tenure.

KACRAN calls upon the NEDC to prioritize the needs of pastoral communities in the region and ensure that they are not forgotten in recovery and development efforts.
