Fake doctor in court for drowning newborn baby in canal
A fake doctor, Olarewaju Oludele (50), has been remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre following allegations of causing the death of a baby boy. The Ibadan Family Court, situated at Iyaganku, presided over by Magistrate Mrs O. O. Ogunkanmi, remanded Oludele after declining to take his plea due to jurisdictional constraints.
Oludele is accused of drowning the day-old baby in a canal, prompting legal proceedings against him. The magistrate referred the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice, and the matter has been adjourned until March 4 for mention.

The police brought forward a three-count charge against Oludele, encompassing impersonation, abduction, and murder. According to prosecuting counsel Insp Gbemisola Adedeji, the alleged offence occurred on December 28, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital in Akinyele, Ibadan.
Adedeji asserted that Oludele, posing as a qualified doctor, deceived the mother into believing his credentials, leading to the abduction of the baby boy born in the hospital. Tragically, the infant was drowned in a canal without the mother’s consent. The prosecuting counsel emphasized that Oludele’s actions not only defrauded the mother but also posed a threat to other members of the public.
The charges brought against Oludele align with the Criminal Codes of Oyo State (2000), with potential penalties of three years imprisonment for impersonation, 14 years for abduction, and a death sentence for murder. The case highlights the grave consequences of impersonation and criminal activities within the medical realm, emphasizing the need for robust legal action to ensure justice prevails.
