Police arrest phone snatcher in Abuja for cutting off teenager’s fingers

A suspected GSM handset thief mutilated a teenager by slicing off two of his fingers in Jiddu village near Tudun Wada, Lugbe, Abuja, on Saturday night.
According to the victim’s uncle, Alhaji Suleman Afawu, “The victim, 18-year-old Sale Ibrahim, had returned home from grazing cattle and went back to Jiddu village to retrieve two handsets he had given to a phone charger around 8 pm.”
“He said the charging fee and was returning home when he was attacked by the armed thief who assaulted him with a sharp cutlass. Sale used his hand to shield himself from the attack but tragically lost two fingers and sustained a gash to his forehead.”

“He threw the handsets to save his life and fled home, crying for help. We rushed him to a private Yabisam hospital in Federal Housing Authority, Lugbe.
He has received three units of drips, and we are awaiting blood samples to donate blood for him,” Suleman Afawu stated.
Afawu also reported the incident to the Police Outpost in Tudun Wada, Lugbe. The police contacted the vigilante group in Jiddu, leading to the apprehension of the suspect, who was then taken to the Nigerian Police Divisional Office in Lugbe.
When reached for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Josephine Adeh, assured, “We are committed to addressing insecurity and we will not relent.”
