Arewa Forum rejects planned relocation of FAAN, CBN departments to Lagos
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed strong disapproval of the proposed relocation of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters and certain Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) departments from Abuja to Lagos.
Characterising this move as a deliberate plot against the northern region, the ACF raised concerns about its potential impact on northerners.
The directive for FAAN’s relocation, issued in an internal memo by Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, cited the need to curb wastage of public resources and prevent the decay of FAAN’s abandoned building in Lagos.
Similarly, the CBN outlined a decongestion plan to optimize its operational environment, focusing on compliance with building safety standards.
The ACF, in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Professor Muhammad Baba, viewed these decisions as part of a disturbing pattern of antagonistic actions by certain federal government agencies against the interests of the north and other parts of the country.

The leaked letter to the minister of aviation, proposing the relocation of the airport rescue and fire-fighting vehicles (ARFF) project from Katsina to Lagos, was highlighted as evidence of this alleged plot.
The ACF called on the federal government and the National Assembly to intervene, urging the agencies involved to reconsider their decisions and explore alternative means to address office overcrowding.
Additionally, it warned against relocating the ARFF project from Katsina to Lagos, emphasizing the Northwest state as the designated location according to the original scope of work.
