Author Yusuf Ozi-Usman nominates himself for Kogi honour award
Yusuf Ozi-Usman, author of the esteemed Standard Ebira English Dictionary and a veteran journalist, has submitted his name for consideration to the Committee established by the Kogi Government to acknowledge individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the State across various fields.
The Committee, chaired by retired Chief Judge Hon. Justice H.A. Olusuyi and comprising eight other members, was appointed in accordance with the State Honours Award Law to identify those who have excelled in their respective fields for the benefit of the State.
In his virtual submission to the Committee, Ozi-Usman emphasized his substantial involvement in raising the literary profile of Ebira society.
He highlighted his authorship of the groundbreaking Ebira English Dictionary, which was first launched in Kano in 1998, as well as the revised edition titled Standard Ebira English Dictionary, which was launched in Abuja in 2022.
He also mentioned his co-authorship of the Holy Qur’an Translation in Ebira language, emphasizing its launch in the Palace of the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji, Dr. Ado Abdulrahman Ibrahim. Ozi-Usman further noted his authorship of various other books, including research works, novels, and autobiographies.
The Committee responded to his self-nomination, stating, “seen and noted,” through WhatsApp. Additionally, the name of Alhaji Abubakar Imam, the Dan Amana of Ebiraland, has also been submitted to the Committee by Mohammed Bougei Attah, the Executive Director of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Network.
The upcoming award ceremony, scheduled for January 2024, will be part of the inauguration ceremony of the incoming administration of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, who won the November 2023 Governorship election.
