CAN president urges Nigerians to embrace unity in 2024

In his New Year message, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), urged Nigerians to stand united in the face of trials, emphasizing that unity holds the power to rebuild. The message comes in the aftermath of armed bandits’ attacks in Plateau State, resulting in the death of approximately 148 people and the destruction of 221 houses.

Okoh, describing the assailants as “enemies of progress,” highlighted the importance of unity as a response to acts of extreme violence that cast shadows over the nation’s joy. He expressed shock at the attacks on communities in Plateau and offered prayers for the souls lost and the bereaved families.

The CAN President called on Nigerians not to be discouraged by the adversities but to come together, resolute in their commitment to building a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation. He stressed the need to embrace diversity as the foundation for a stronger and more harmonious country.

“As we stand at the dawn of a new year, I want to first express my deepest gratitude to Almighty God for His unfailing protection and mercies that have seen us through the year 2023,” Okoh stated. He urged citizens to draw strength from faith, shared values, and a renewed sense of purpose to overcome the challenges ahead.
The message concluded with a call for unity, resilience, and the acknowledgment that, as a united people, Nigerians can create a nation where peace, justice, and prosperity become not just ideals but tangible realities for all.
