CGC praises agencies for N4.279 billion interception at Tincan Port (Pictures)

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has praised the successful inter-agency synergy, particularly with the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), leading to the interception of Cocaine, Colorado, and firearms with a street value of N4.279 Billion at Tincan Island Port Command.

During a press conference on Thursday, 25 January 2024, the CGC highlighted the seizure of 56.39kg of Cocaine valued at N2,368,380,000, 955kg of Colorado Indica valued at N1,911,400,000, 5 pistols, 445 rounds of live ammunition, and several empty pistol magazines.

Emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in combating illicit substances and ensuring national security, he stated, “Government agencies must appreciate the advantages of working collectively to fulfill their statutory responsibilities.”

He underscored the effectiveness of pooling resources and intelligence, reinforcing the commitment of both agencies to safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting citizens from the threats posed by illegal substances.

The CGC reaffirmed the NCS’ commitment to strategic partnerships, stating, “In recognition of the threats and the collaborative nature of criminal activities, the NCS has prioritized strategic partnerships with stakeholders over the past seven months.”

The seized items were handed over to the Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, by the Customs Boss. In response, the NDLEA Boss commended the synergy between the two agencies, signaling a strong warning to drug cartels about the consequences of their criminal trade.

He concluded, “The seizure is a testament that, just like the Airports, the Sea Ports are also secured.”
