Court orders flogging of man for stealing N20,000

In a stern judgment, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel has ordered that Francis, an ex-convict, receive 10 strokes of the cane and serve six months in prison for the theft of ₦20,000. The magistrate issued the order after Francis pleaded guilty to the charge and sought leniency from the court. Notably, the convict had a previous conviction and was sentenced to one year in prison for theft in 2022.

Magistrate Emmanuel, while delivering the judgment, emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the convict’s history of criminal activities. He sentenced Francis to six months in prison without the option of a fine, cautioning him to refrain from criminal activities and maintain good behavior going forward. The magistrate firmly stated that the court would not show leniency a second time.

The judgment serves as a reminder of the judicial system’s commitment to upholding the law and discouraging criminal behavior within society.
