EFCC defends search of Dangote Group head office
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) defended its recent visit to the Dangote Group Headquarters in search of vital documents on forex allocations from 2014 to 2023 during the tenure of former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The commission stated that, “the visit was necessary as the company was not forthcoming with the requested documents, and they were able to obtain the vital information during their search”.
In response, Dangote Group clarified that no accusations of wrongdoing had been made against any company within its group and expressed concern over the visit causing unwarranted embarrassment to the company.

The group acknowledged receiving a request for foreign exchange allocation details and assured its commitment to providing the necessary information and cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
Former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, expressed concerns about the incident, emphasising the need for thorough investigations and legislative and regulatory changes to prevent fraudulent activities related to foreign exchange allocations.
“He stressed the importance of fostering an environment conducive for investment and values cooperation with law enforcement agencies”.
While the incident reflects the ongoing challenges in ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters, Adeniran called for collective efforts to address these issues, highlighting the importance of institutions and companies adhering to legal and ethical standards.
“He emphasized the significance of trust and credibility in maintaining a conducive environment for national development”.
He also emphasised the need for transparent and diligent investigations to uncover the truth and ensure that justice prevails.
“He called for a balanced approach that upholds the rule of law while respecting the rights of individuals and organisations involved”.

Adeniran stressed the importance of constructive engagement and dialogue in addressing such sensitive matters to prevent unwarranted disruptions and ensure a fair and just outcome for all parties involved.
