EFCC quizzes Betta Edu over alleged N585 million fraud
Suspended Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Minister Dr. Betta Edu has appeared at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Headquarters for questioning regarding an alleged N585 million fraud within her ministry.
President Bola Tinubu suspended Edu on Monday amid accusations of diverting the humanitarian fund into a private account.
The funds, originally earmarked for grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River, and Ogun states, are at the center of the investigation.
Edu’s suspension marks a significant development, as she becomes the first minister to face such action since the swearing-in of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) members in August last year.
More details on the ongoing investigation are expected to emerge shortly.
