Ehie quits as Rivers Assembly speaker, abandons allegiance to Fubara

Rivers Assembly speaker Edison Ehie, who is aligned with Governor Sim Fubara, has tendered his resignation as a member representing Ahoada East and also as the speaker.

In a letter dated December 29, 2023, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Ehie formally notified the commission of his voluntary resignation from both positions with effect from the date of the letter.

The lawmaker did not disclose the reason behind his decision to step down from his positions.

“This is to formally notify you of my voluntary resignation as Speaker and Member of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly representing Ahoada East Constituency II with effect from the date of this letter.

“I wish to appreciate my colleagues and the people of my constituency for the rare opportunity to serve and hope to continue to give my utmost best in service to Rivers State subsequently,” the letter read.
