FEC mandates thorough investigation into Ibadan explosion

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Tinubu, has directed an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the recent explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The order came during the council’s first meeting in 2024. Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru, revealed that FEC also established a committee to address environmental degradation and deforestation, with a focus on the challenges posed by illegal mining. The committee, comprising service chiefs and defence ministers, will formulate strategies to tackle this menace.

Expressing concerns about the surge in kidnapping within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), FEC mandated the service chiefs to enhance security in the nation’s capital. President Tinubu, during a meeting with the service chiefs, instructed them to take decisive actions to curb kidnapping.

Badaru attributed the rise in FCT kidnappings to military operations in the North-West and parts of North Central, prompting bandits to relocate. He condemned families resorting to crowdfunding for ransom, emphasizing that such actions are criminalized by the Nigerian Terrorism Act.
