Fire guts 30 shops in Yobe GSM market
Fire has gutted the Damaturu GSM market in Yobe State, resulting in the destruction of numerous shops and properties worth millions of naira.
The fire ignited around 6:23pm on Monday evening and continued for several hours before being successfully contained through the combined efforts of firefighters, security personnel, and local community members.
The market commonly known as Kasuwar Jagol, is situated in the Abashawa Ward area of Damaturu, providing business spaces to numerous traders and artisans.
Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, stating that security forces and firefighting vehicles were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties in the fire, which ravaged over thirty shops.
Regarding the incident, Abdulkarim stated, “The fire has been brought under control by the firefighting team, while over 30 shops were completely burnt down.”
He also mentioned that a comprehensive assessment of the damage would be conducted.
An eyewitness, Baba Musa, revealed that the fire originated in one of the shops and quickly spread to engulf the surrounding area.
Musa, a mobile phone vendor, expressed his sorrow over the loss of goods suffered by numerous traders in the inferno.
Additionally, it was reported that security personnel were deployed to the market to prevent any potential looting by hoodlums in the aftermath of the fire.
