Generator repairer bags 7 years imprisonment for impregnating underage girl
A Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has handed down a seven-year prison sentence without the option of a fine to Anayor Ugo, a man in his fifties. Ugo, a generator repairer, was convicted for the defilement and impregnation of a 12-year-old girl.
The court’s decision stems from an incident in 2021 when Ugo visited the home of the underage girl in Oyigbo to repair their generator set, as directed by the victim’s father. Tragically, during this visit, Ugo reportedly defiled the young girl, leading to her pregnancy.
During the trial, Ugo admitted to having engaged in sexual intercourse with the minor but denied being responsible for her pregnancy, asserting that he was seduced by the girl.

However, Chief Magistrate Rita Oguguo, in her judgment, determined that the prosecution successfully established the case, relying on both evidence and the personal admission of the accused.
In response to Ugo’s plea for mercy post-conviction, Chief Magistrate Oguguo sentenced him to seven years in prison without the possibility of a fine.
This verdict marks a crucial legal intervention in cases of child abuse and serves as a deterrent against such heinous acts within the community.
