Governor Mai Mala Buni has flagged off the distribution of over N1 billion learning materials, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to high-quality education in Yobe State.

The Governor who was represented by Dr Muhammad Sani Idriss, Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, emphasised the initiative’s aim to revitalise basic education for a robust foundation.

Expressing contentment with educational performance attributed to the 2019 State of Emergency on Education, Governor Buni stressed achievements in basic and secondary education, noting that the materials were procured through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and development partners.

He called for the responsible use of the educational materials by 17 local government education authorities (LGEAs) to enhance learning outcomes.

He warned against diversion and emphasises the government’s commitment to preventing sabotage.

Governor Buni also called for collaboration from development partners, communities, NGOs, PTAs, and others, stating education is a shared community responsibility.

On his part, Alhaji Isa Shettima, Acting Chairman of SUBEB emphasized that the distribution of materials is integral to the state government’s wider initiatives to bolster the education sector.

He urged beneficiaries to ensure the judicious utilisation of the items to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in public schools.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the House Committee on Education and representative of Damagum Constituency at the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Maina Digma Gana, noted that the distribution of learning materials is a part of the government’s commitment to enhance the state’s education sector.

He stated, “The Yobe State Government consistently strives for unprecedented development in education, and I urge beneficiaries to make effective use of the resources. We will monitor every school to ensure judicious usage.”

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, some education secretaries affirmed that the distribution came at the right time and emphasized their readiness to use the materials effectively.

The distributed items include laptops, projectors, tabs, 56,000 cartons of branded school bags (UNICEF), 5,600 cartons of pencil HB, 5,600 cartons of ballpoint pen, 5,600 cartons of exercise book A.

Others are 4,800 cartons of plastic ruler, 5,600 cartons of exercise books 2A & 2C, 5,000 dozens of exercise book 2C, 1,000 cartons of chalks in different colours, 8,000 pieces of whiteboard, 500 pieces of marker, and various other essential teaching materials.
