Gov. Fubara appoints ex-Speaker Ehie as Rivers Chief of Staff
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has appointed the immediate past Speaker Ehie Edison as his Chief of Staff.
The appointment comes a few days after Ehie voluntarily resigned as the Speaker and member of the state legislative chamber.
Ehie Edison, who represented Ahoada east constituency II, announced his resignation from the house in a letter addressed to the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), dated December 29.
In October, Ehie was elected speaker of the Rivers assembly, after a faction of the house removed him as house leader, as the plot to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara intensified at the time.
Some months earlier, the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been at loggerheads over control of the state’s political structure.
The political rift worsened making President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
During a closed-door meeting with some major stakeholders from Rivers State led by Governor Fubara, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja State, an eight point agreement was signed by the parties involved to end all political crisis in the state.
After the meeting, all parties agreed that matters instituted in courts should “immediately” be withdrawn and all impeachment proceedings against the governor should be dropped “immediately”.
