Inna Galadima makes history as first female LG chairman in Borno, APC sweeps all seats

Hajiya Inna Galadima, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has etched her name in history as the newly elected Chairman of Jere Local Government Area in Borno State.

This landmark victory positions Galadima as the first female council chairman in the state.

Galadima, a seasoned former commissioner and special adviser in Borno State, secured her triumph as announced by the Returning Officer of Jere LGA, Professor Mohammed Konto, on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

Konto disclosed that Galadima garnered an impressive 110,459 votes, triumphing over her closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 2,478 votes.

The APC achieved an overwhelming victory, securing all 27 chairmanship positions and 312 councillor seats in the state during Saturday’s council election. Lawan Maina, the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), revealed this comprehensive triumph while declaring the overall results in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Sunday.

Maina stated, “The ruling party, APC, won all the 27 Local Government Chairmen in the state. Equally, the ruling party has won all the 312 council members (councillors) in all the wards of the state.”

The official certificate presentation to the winners is scheduled for a later date to be announced soon.
