Insecurity: Wike promises to assist police establish more divisions in Gwagwalada
In light of escalating security challenges in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has taken decisive action to address community concerns and bolster security infrastructure by ordering the establishment of two additional Police Divisions in Gwagwalada Area Council.
Wike issued the directives to the Police Commissioner of the FCT Command during a security town hall meeting in Gwagwalada.
This move aims to enhance security measures in response to residents’ growing apprehensions, particularly in border communities.
“Security is one of the priorities of the current government, so, be rest assured that you are not alone, and we will do all that we can to end security challenges in the territory,” Wike said.
Gwagwalada Council Chairman, Mr Abubakar Giri, highlighted the need for increased security, emphasizing challenges posed by abandoned buildings serving as havens for criminals. Giri specifically requested additional police divisions to improve security conditions.
“I am here on the directive of President Tinubu to meet and discuss with you the prevailing security challenges and find lasting solutions together,” the Minister said.
In response to the urgent situation, Wike promptly announced the establishment of two police divisions in Gwagwalada, as part of government’s commitment to address immediate security exigencies.
“I was in Bwari Area Council on Wednesday, and today I am here at Gwagwalada on the same issue. Next week I will visit another area council until we cover all the six area councils,” Wike revealed.
To equip security agencies for effective operations, Wike revealed that President Tinubu had approved the procurement and distribution of operational vehicles and communication gadgets to the police and other security agencies in the FCT.

“I am here on the directive of President Tinubu, to meet and discuss with you the prevailing security challenges and find lasting solutions together,” he said.
Addressing concerns related to uncompleted buildings causing security threats, Wike urged the Council Chairman to provide details. He pledged to approve the demolition of such buildings or facilitate ownership transfer to communities for completion.
Wike assured residents of additional development projects, including the construction of a health facility and other initiatives aligned with community requests. This comprehensive approach underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to addressing security challenges and fostering sustainable development across the Federal Capital Territory.
