Microfinance staff fakes own kidnap over N1.7m debt

Operatives of the Nigeria Police have detained Olumide Openaike, a staff member with a Microfinance Bank, Kemta Oloko, for faking his kidnap over N1.7 million debt.
Earlier, the banker’s wife, Temitope, had told journalists how her husband went missing on his way to work and was later found in Mokwa, Niger State.
SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the state police command confirmed that Mr Olumide has been found.
The police also revealed that the alleged case of abduction of Mr Olumide Openaike was fake.
“Yes, the police have found out that the banker, Olumide Openaike, faked his abduction over N1.7 million debt. The money belongs to the bank where he works.

“He has already been detained by the police. What happened was that a customer was remitting the money to the bank but Openaike was diverting it to personal use. He said he then got depressed and decided to fake his abduction.
However, Mr Olumide’s wife, Temitope, expressed joy that her husband has returned.
“I am happy that my husband has been found in a place called Mokwa in Niger State.
She stated that her husband called her on Tuesday afternoon.
“He got a phone from one of the residents there because he said those who abducted him collected his phone.
“We then told him to make a report at the police station there, the police officer on duty who spoke to us said he was in Mokwa,” she said.
