NAHCON yields to public outcry, extends Hajj registration deadline to Jan. 31
After much appeals from religious leaders, State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions, State Governors, and other stakeholders, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has received Federal Government’s approval for an extension of the 2024 Hajj registration deadline to January 31.
The new date, January 31, 2024, provides an additional window for individuals to partake in the sacred pilgrimage.
According to a statement by Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director, Public Affairs, NAHCON, the decision to extend the registration period is prompted by the overwhelming requests from diverse religious communities, emphasising the importance of ensuring access for a broader spectrum of faithfuls eager to embark on the spiritual journey of Hajj.
The statement read, “NAHCON expresses confidence that with the support of its sister agencies, the Commission will determine the total cost of the 2024 Hajj before the expiration of the new deadline.
“This extension offers an opportunity for new registrants to do so, and by the end of January, those requiring a balance in payment will also be able to fulfill their obligations.
“It is crucial to note that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set February 25th as the end date for signing all contracts, signaling the conclusion of payments into IBAN accounts. NAHCON, with this extension, has just under a month to finalize the payment of all Hajj deposits into its IBAN account for the 2024 Hajj.

While acknowledging that this extension stretches NAHCON’s preparatory timeline, Chairman Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi reaffirms the Commission’s commitment to accommodating stakeholders’ concerns.
The chairman expressed gratitude to religious leaders, state boards, and governors for advocating on behalf of the pilgrims, describing this collaborative effort as a testament to the shared commitment to facilitating a meaningful and inclusive Hajj experience for all.
Malam Arabi prays for the successful 2024 Hajj operations and urges all Hajj handlers to utilise this extended opportunity effectively.
