NANS president reacts to certificate racketeering in foreign universities

Ugochukwu Favour, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for Benin Republic, has demanded the arrest of Umar Audu, the reporter who conducted an undercover investigation into corruption related to the issuance of certificates in the country.

In a Thursday interview, Favour criticised Audu for obtaining certificates without being physically present and highlighted concerns about the reporter’s actions. He pointed out that Audu’s passport was stamped despite his absence and raised questions about the credibility of agencies such as the Immigration and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Favour argued that Audu’s undercover operation implicated the government and undermined the trust in institutions like NYSC and Immigration.

He stated, “He has to be arrested, this guy needs to be arrested because, I know, he’s a reporter who is trying to clear out some things but on that note, you are trying to implicate some persons now because, in a sense, you’re trying to implicate the government, the NYSC and the Immigration Service.”

When asked if Audu’s investigation revealed loopholes that should be addressed, the NANS president acknowledged the need for scrutiny but emphasised the urgency for the government to take necessary steps in response to the exposed issues.
