NITDA, Coursera open applications for cohort 3

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Coursera have announced the opening of applications for Cohort 3 of Coursera courses.

Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at NITDA, encouraged interested Nigerians to apply for the program, aligning with the agency’s commitment to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to create one million digital jobs in the Information Technology sector.

The partnership between NITDA and Coursera, initiated on Oct. 19, 2022, aimed to address high rates of youth unemployment, targeting the training of 8,000 Nigerian learners annually. The program, spanning three years, intends to train a total of 24,000 learners in cohorts of 4,000 each year.

Coursera, a global online learning platform, offers selected NITDA learners access to educational content from top universities and industry leaders, including Yale, Meta, Google, and IBM. The collaboration is designed to enhance the technical capabilities of Nigerian youths, fostering IT talent development.

Participants in Cohort 3 will focus on skills aligned with the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. The courses include Software Development, UI/UX Design, Data Analysis & Visualizations, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Data Science, Animation, AI/Machine Learning, Cyber Security, and Cloud Computing.

Beneficiaries of the first and second cohorts included students, government workers, entrepreneurs, and academics. The program received positive feedback, with an average rating of 4.8/5.0, reflecting Nigerians’ enthusiasm for digital up-skilling on the Coursera platform.
