Ombugadu loses as Supreme Court affirms Abdullahi Sule as Nasarawa governor

The Supreme Court has upheld Abdullahi Sule as the duly elected governor of Nasarawa State in a landmark ruling.

The decision, which was handed down by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, affirmed the earlier verdict of the Court of Appeal, declaring Sule’s election as governor as “comprehensive and well considered.”

All five members of the apex court’s panel dismissed the appeals brought by David Ombugadu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, who had challenged Sule’s victory in the elections.

This follows a long legal battle that began after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Sule as the winner with 347,209 votes, while Ombugadu came in second with 283,016 votes.

Ombugadu had initially contested the results, citing alleged irregularities, leading to the nullification of Sule’s victory by the election petition tribunal in Lafia.

However, the Court of Appeal later overturned this decision and affirmed Sule’s election as governor.

The Supreme Court’s ruling finally settles the dispute, confirming Abdullahi Sule as the rightful governor of Nasarawa State.
