Over 21 Israeli soldiers die in one day as war with Gaza worsens

In a tragic turn of events, Israel has suffered its most significant single-day loss of life during the ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli military confirmed that twenty-one soldiers were killed in combat in southern Gaza on Monday, marking a devastating blow to the nation’s forces.

The incident unfolded near the Kissufim border community, where the soldiers were engaged in a mission to destroy military infrastructure belonging to the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.

According to Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the army spokesman, the operation took a dire turn as Hamas fighters launched a rocket-propelled grenade at an Israeli tank. Simultaneously, an explosion occurred, causing two two-story buildings to collapse.

Rear Adm. Hagari emphasized that the buildings collapsed due to the explosion, with most of the Israeli forces inside or in close proximity. An immediate investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the explosion, with initial indications pointing to mines planted by Israeli soldiers.

The army released the names of 10 soldiers who lost their lives, while the families of the remaining 11 were notified privately. This devastating incident has elevated the death toll of Israeli soldiers in Gaza since the ground assault began on October 27 to 219. The overall death toll for the Israeli army, since the launch of the offensive against Gaza on October 7, now stands at 556.

The conflict, characterized by intense hostilities between Israel and Hamas, has resulted in widespread casualties and destruction. Israel’s relentless airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, triggered by a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, have led to the death of at least 25,295 Palestinians and injuries to 63,000 individuals. The toll on the Israeli side is also significant, with nearly 1,200 believed to have been killed in the conflict.
