Kano police arrest 2,931 suspects for armed robbery, kidnapping, others

The Police Command in Kano State reported the arrest of 2,931 individuals suspected of various crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping, homicide, and others across different parts of the state in 2023.
According to Mr Hussaini Gumel, the State Commissioner of Police, these arrests and subsequent prosecutions involved crimes that occurred in all of the state’s 44 local government areas.
He said that various operations led to the apprehension of 337 suspected armed robbers, 55 suspected kidnappers, 65 suspected drug dealers, and 68 suspected motor thieves.
Additionally, there were arrests related to tricycle theft, fraud, and apprehension of individuals involved in thuggery (Yan Dabas).
Furthermore, the authorities disclosed the rehabilitation of 662 repentant thugs and the successful rescue of 25 kidnap victims and 63 individuals trafficked within the year.
The police also seized various weapons such as rifles, pistols, guns of different makes, ammunition, as well as numerous vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and counterfeit drugs.
To tackle the issue of phone snatching in the city, the commissioner highlighted specific measures taken by the command.

Heemphasised the directive given to area commanders and divisional police officers across the 44 local government areas to enhance security measures in their respective domains to curb criminal activities.
The commissioner urged the public to support and collaborate by providing vital information to help in apprehending wrongdoers within their communities.
He assured police readiness to confront any threat to the state’s peace and called for continued support from the residents to create a safer environment.
