Police arrest fake doctor for organ trafficking in Nasarawa
An individual posing as a doctor was recently apprehended in Nasarawa, Nigeria, for engaging in a range of criminal activities, including organ trafficking, fraud, cybercrime, stealing, impersonation, cheating, and identity theft.
The arrest occurred in response to the suspect’s fraudulent activities in Owerri, Imo State, where he operated under the false identity of Henry Ovie, a neurologist newly transferred to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri.
The suspect, identified as Igwe Gift Okechukwu, duped a point of sale (POS) operator, Anita Chinwe Mathias, into facilitating the withdrawal of a total of twenty-one million naira (N21,000,000) from her account.

The suspect utilised multiple identities and phone numbers, further complicating the investigation.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the suspect exploited the victim’s trust, sent a significant amount to her account, and subsequently tricked her into entering a code that facilitated the fraudulent withdrawal.
Following the incident, the victim reported the case to the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja, initiating an extensive investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest in Nasarawa.
Further investigations uncovered the suspect’s involvement in organ trafficking, as well as connections to a contact in Toronto, Canada.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, affirmed the force’s commitment to combating crimes and ensuring the safety and security of communities.
He assured that an ongoing, thorough investigation will ensure that all perpetrators engaged in these criminal activities are brought to justice and charged accordingly.
