Ugandan cleric, Aloysius Bugingo, survives assassination attempt, bodyguard killed

Ugandan Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, a contentious figure at the helm of the House of Prayer Ministries, narrowly escaped a murder attempt on Tuesday evening. Unidentified assailants targeted Bugingo’s vehicle, opening fire before making a swift escape on a motorcycle, according to Ugandan police.

The attack resulted in injuries to Pastor Aloysius Bugingo’s left shoulder, and his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, tragically lost his life during the assault. Bugingo, known for his influential role in one of Uganda’s prominent Pentecostal churches and his unwavering support for President Museveni, managed to transport the vehicle to Mulago Hospital despite sustaining injuries.

The son of President Museveni, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, confirmed Bugingo’s well-being, stating that the pastor was receiving medical treatment for his injuries. Kainerugaba condemned the “heinous” attack, emphasizing that Bugingo, despite injuries, had the resilience to bring the vehicle to the hospital.
