Woman fatally shot as police engage kidnappers of Lagos PDP Chair in gun battle

A 37-year-old woman, Bilikisu Kazeem, tragically succumbed to a bullet wound sustained during a fierce encounter between the police and kidnappers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Ogun State Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, revealed this sorrowful incident on Saturday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Odutola disclosed that during the intense engagement, nine out of ten individuals were successfully rescued from the suspected kidnappers on the expressway.

Reportedly, the alleged kidnappers had seized several travelers, including the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, Philip Aivoji, the day before on the Lagos- Ibadan expressway.

According to Odutola, the swift intervention of police officers facilitated the release of nine out of ten victims, with only the PDP chairman remaining in captivity.

Providing details on the casualties, Odutola stated, “A White Mazda Bus registered as LSR 288 XE suffered minor damage, while Eunice Afolake Osalusi, Erinfolami Samuel, Obafemi Da Altantra, and Adeyinka Mathew sustained non-life-threatening bullet injuries during their escape attempts. They are currently receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition in the hospital.”

“Sadly, Bilikisu Kazeem, aged 37 years, passed away before reaching the hospital. Her remains were promptly collected by her relatives, who were transporting her to the hospital, declining any autopsy examination from the police,” Odutola added.

The Police Spokesman also listed the items recovered from the scene, including “one AK47 Magazine containing 28 live ammunition believed to belong to the hoodlums, handsets, car key, were handed over to respective owners.”

In response, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations has mobilised Tactical Commanders to conduct joint operations with other security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the PDP chairman.
